At the 2022 Turnaround Industry Network Conference, TINC, Asset Performance Networks (AP-Networks) presented the 2022 Award for Turnaround Excellence, an exclusive honor that highlights the year’s most exceptional shutdown, turnaround, or outage (STO) performance. The recipient for 2022 was the CITGO Lake Charles 2021 Alky/SHU Turnaround. Representing the Lake Charles turnaround team was Turnaround Manager Corey Snead who was presented the award by George DeBakey, Managing Director of AP-Networks.
For 19 years, TINC has served as the premier turnaround management symposium, attended exclusively by representatives of owner-operator companies across the globe. The event serves as a knowledge network for Industry, gathering together leaders in the field of turnaround management to discuss trends and strategies for success. In recent years, AP-Networks has gone beyond success to ask the question: “What defines turnaround excellence?” To answer this question, the AP-Networks developed a stringent set of criteria for benchmarked turnarounds. These turnarounds not only score highly on the company’s exclusive Cost to Business Index (CBI), a quantifiable measure of value delivered. They are also safe, predictable, environmentally sound, and result in reliable operability.
The CITGO Lake Charles team accomplished the following:
- No recordable safety incidents.
- No environmental incidents.
- Executed during the pandemic but still achieved high competitiveness relative to industry and high predictability.
- Strong focus on scope management and control; top quartile scope growth performance.
- Early procurement of materials to manage industry supply chain constraints and to curtail price escalation impacts
- Early integration and scheduling of inspection activities.
- Near optimal Turnaround Readiness Index (TRI) score of 3.6.
